Aqua Aerobics
This is a workout class that uses the resistance of the water to strengthen and tone the whole body. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace and have fun! This class will also include a relaxing cool down and stretch to end the class. -

Introduction to Competitive Swimming
Introduction to Competitive Swimming is a course designed to prepare swimmers who are interested in learning the fundamentals of competitive swimming: diving, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, flip turns, open turns, and rules of swimming. Swimmers must have passed a deep water swim test in order to register for this course. Contact Olivia Stephenson to schedule a swim test if needed olivia.stephenson@johnston.k12.ia.us. -
Introduction to Competitive Swimming
This course is designed to prepare swimmers who are interested in learning the fundamentals of competitive swimming. Participants will learn freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, turns, starts, and individual medley training. Swimmers wishing to take this course should be comfortable swimming in deep water and those who are unsure must schedule a swim test with the instructor prior to enrolling in the course. -
Jr Lifeguard Camp
American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding gives students an introduction to the skills learned in the full version of the Lifeguard Course. Students will learn good decision-making skills, communication, team work, and improved endurance in the water. This course is a perfect way to add variety to the summer for those who love the swimming and want to learn more about water safety and what it takes to be a lifeguard. Students must be able to swim front crawl for 25 yards using rotary breathing, swim the breaststroke 25 yards, and complete a Water Competency Sequence that includes treading water, floating, and swimming 25 yards on the front or back. This class will not certify anyone in Lifeguarding or CPR, but certificates of completion will be issued for the class. -

This course if for current lifeguards needing to update their certification. Students must show proof of certification upon arriving to the class. Please send the students email address to the course instructor, Olivia Stephenson at olivia.stephenson@johnston.k12.ia.us. -
Lifeguard Training - Blended
Take the plunge and become lifeguard certified! This training teaches the knowledge and skills to save a life. Participants must be able to pass a 300 yard swim, timed brick dive, and 2 minutes of treading water without the use of their arms to continue the course. There is also an online component to the course that must be completed by the end of the last in person course date. The online course will come to the student in an email directly from the American Red Cross. Please be sure that the course instructor has an email address for the student, not the parent prior to April 14th. Please send the students email address to olivia.stephenson@johnston.k12.ia.us. The online course takes approximately 7 hours to complete. -

To continue with the course participants must be able to pass the prerequisites: 300 yard swim, timed brick dive, and 2 minutes of treading water without using hands. There will be an online portion that is to be completed using the link sent to each participant prior to the start of the in-person class. Registration deadline is 5/21/23 at 11:59pm. -
