    Course Description Create handmade gifts using local beeswax, including lip balm, wood conditioner, and a beeswax wrap. Learn to make wax pellets and take home recipes. Instructor Julia McGuire Julia McGuire helps beginning beekeepers master basic skills and advanced beekeepers learn niche topics. She's kept bees in central Iowa since 2011 with a high rate of winter survival, has experience in filing ELAP due to tornado loss, and has recently taught beekeeping through the Farmer-to-Farmer program to rural populations in Jamaica and Honduras.
  • Getting Started in Woodworking

    Course Description: Want to get started in woodworking? What questions do you have? What do you need to know before you start? Members of the Des Moines Woodworking Association, Incorporated will answer these questions and provide a general overview of woodworking. Topics include kinds and styles of woodworking, woodworking equipment and tools, safety considerations, resources, creating a workspace, and other issues. This is not a hands-on class.
