Course Description: Design and race multiple race cars and vehicles using LEGO® bricks. Then use those projects to investigate basic engineering concepts. {YEL!}’s Teach It! Practice It! Play It!® classroom method emphasizes 21st Century Learning skills like STEM and problem solving. Logistics: Students will go directly to class when school is dismissed at 3:35pm Students should bring a water bottle with their name on it and a snack if desired The instructor will walk students out to parents at the end of class Instructor: Youth Enrichment League {YEL!} was founded in 2004 by Chet and Lisa Gunhus. It was founded to bring the highest quality enrichment to schools throughout Minnesota. Through the combined blessings of amazing teachers and happy clients, {YEL!} has grown to 745 schools and 150 teachers in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Course Description: In FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore, students focus on the fundamentals of LEGO engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn and design basic code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education WeDo 2.0. Teams of up to 6 students, led by parent-volunteer coaches, will meet 1 day each week for up to 1 hour. During these team "practices", teams will work together to develop a solution and model related to the current season's theme. The current season theme is "Submerged". Teams will explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future. The season culminates with an FLL Explore Expo where each team will present their unique solution, model and learning. The Winter/Spring 2025 Expo is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 at 6:00pm. (Parents are invited to attend!) Logistics: All teams will practice on Thursday evenings at 6:15pm at JCSD facilities. Registration Deadline: Sunday, January 26 Tentative Coaches Meeting: Thursday, Feb 6 at 5:30pm Teams will be contacted by parent-volunteer coaches by Sunday, February 9 Practices begin Thursday, February 13 at 6:15pm. (Teams will practice for approximately 45-50min.) Practice locations will be determined after team rosters are created and volunteer coaches are assigned. Instructor: This program is dependent on parent-volunteers to operate. Rosters are limited to 6 students. That means we need to identify a Head Coach and ideally 2 Assistant Coaches for every six student team. A MINIMUM of 2 adults (Coach + Assistant Coach) are required to be on-site to safely supervise each practice. No LEGO or robotics experience is necessary. FLL and Community Education will provide all of the materials and support necessary to guide teams through each practice. With small rosters - all parents should consider how they can volunteer to support the team.
