    Course Description The goal of Coach T is to have camps that provide each participant with a positive, fun-filled learning experience.     Course Description This open gym basketball pass is for families looking to have fun and get a workout in. Pre-registration is required online and no drop-in passes are allowed. Open gyms are determined by a minimum number (5) paid prior to the open gyms starting. GENERAL RULES- -Ages 6 and under are not allowed due to safety issues. Youth ages 15 and under must be directly supervised by a responsible adult (21 years and older). -Please bring your own basketball with your name on it. No other balls will be allowed to play with during open gym (no football, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, etc). -Full Court games are NOT allowed unless approved by supervisor. No organized practices allowed. Baskets can be lowered if needed. -No kicking or throwing basketballs during open gym. No half court shots. -Kids must be directly supervised. Practices are limited to one hour. Registration deadline is 1/3 at 12pm. A Volunteer Coaches meeting is after the deadline with location/time announced later. Coaches can contact families with practice/game schedules after the meeting (also posted online). Jerseys are worn at each practice/game. Additional $17 fee if a jersey is needed. Teams are selected according to the questions asked during registration. No requests are taken to be with another child unless coaching together. Max of two coaches are allowed per team.   • Dragon Athletic Development Clinic

    Course Description This clinic is an intro into strength and conditioning program that emphasizes proper body weight exercises, weight lifting technique, core strength, flexibility, agility, speed, power and endurance. This program is designed to improve overall athletic ability that will enhance performance for all sports. Younger athletes will use little or no weight. PVC sticks will be used to perfect lifting technique.   • Dragon Dance Camp

    Course Description Learn the best dance moves from the Johnston Varsity Dance Team! Dancers learn a short routine which they will perform on Friday, October 10th before the home varsity football game at JHS Football Stadium. All dancers receive a t-shirt to wear for the performance. Logistics Bring a water bottle with your name on it after school No snacks are provided during camp Wear clean, dry tennis shoes Friday, October 10 Performance Details Please have your child wear their camp t-shirt they received at camp. Have comfortable bottoms on (shorts, leggings of any color are fine) and wear tennis shoes. Please do not send dancers with additional clothing or water bottles. Child's hair- dancer's preference (pony tail, down, braided, etc.) Arrive at 5:30pm and participants should be brought in by parents at Door #2- Johnston High School Activities Entrance and meet in the cafeteria. Members of the dance team will be there to greet. REQUIRED- Parents/families MUST pay prior to the football game. Please click here to pay ahead of time. Dancers are FREE. Participants are arranged by their school with Beaver Creek on the left (north) side when looking at the track from the bleachers and Wallace being on the right (south) side with other schools in between. Participants perform before the start of the varsity game (approximately 6:25pm) Parents need to pick up dancers under the scoreboard at the south end zone when their performance is done.     Course Description Learn the fundamental wrestling techniques, drilling, and have live wrestling opportunities. The camp teaches the basics of wrestling and talks about the growth of girls wrestling in Iowa. Logistics Wear t-shirt/shorts and wear clean dry tennis shoes or wrestling shoes.     Course Description Boy and girls can join the 2025 Class 3A Coaches of Year HS Wrestling staff for a preseason camp! This camp will offer technique, drilling, and live wrestling opportunities for all levels of wrestlers. Members of the high school wrestling team will also be present to help run the camp and teach our future Dragons! This camp is a great way to kick off the winter wrestling season and learn more about in-season winter opportunities! Logistics Wear t-shirt/shorts and wear clean dry tennis shoes or wrestling shoes.     Course Description Join this fast-paced, inclusive (everyone participates) Olympic Sport. YEL’s Teach It, Practice It, Play It® approach teaches fencers new skills each class, practices those skills in kid-friendly fencing games, and then encourages students to use those skills in fencing bouts (matches).   • Flag Football Clinic: Parent & Me

    Course Description This program introduces the skills and rules needed to play football. Participants move through drills with their parent/adult working on passing/receiving, running, defense, and blocking. Each child must have a “coaching” parent/adult present who is willing to go through each drill throughout the clinic. Practices include QB/Center exchange, hand-offs/running and dodging, pass/catching, how to pull flags (without tackling), some blocking, and some head to head drills. Logistics Wear active attire and tennis shoes or molded cleats are acceptable Bring plenty of water in a bottle with their name on it. Nerf footballs, flags are provided. No pads are allowed.     Course Description All levels are welcome to participate. Learn forehands, backhands, volleys, serves, and how to start the point. Improve on current game with extra touches. Lead-up games and activities for the younger kids and learning how to keep score and playing the actual game for the older participants. Beginners and Intermediates will be split by the instructors after the first day to allow for better growth in each individual.     Course Description Grades K-2 Clinic: These lessons are an introduction into the game of tennis. The child learns forehands, backhands, volleys, and how to start the rally.     Course Description This early childhood program teachers the basic fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do and Karate. Focus is on building self-respect, self-confidence, coordination of mind and body, and self-discipline. Logistics Park on the east side of the District Office and enter through Door #7. The gym is down the hall to the right. Instructor Mr. Phil Dickey, has more than 30 years of martial arts teaching experience. Elementary teacher, a fourth Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, Fifth Degree Black Belt Karate, and a 3-time Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inductee.
