  • Dragon Athletic Development Clinic

    Course Description This clinic is an intro into strength and conditioning program that emphasizes proper body weight exercises, weight lifting technique, core strength, flexibility, agility, speed, power and endurance. This program is designed to improve overall athletic ability that will enhance performance for all sports. Younger athletes will use little or no weight. PVC sticks will be used to perfect lifting technique.   • Dragon Beginners Indoor Soccer Clinic

    Course Description This clinic provides young players with a variety of coaching styles, practices, and influences that will help them develop a well-rounded set of skills. Logistics Please bring a soccer ball (if you have one), water bottle with name, and clean, court shoes. Camp Director Eric Shafer, Johnston Middle School PE Teacher -Coach Shafer was the Johnston Girls Soccer Head Coach from 2020-2025. Prior to leading the girls team, Coach Shafer assisted the Johnston Boys Soccer Team for four seasons. In Spring 2023, the Dragons won the Iowa High School Girls Class 3A State Championship and finished 16-4. Coach Shafer was also named 2023 Large Public Iowa Coach of the Year with United Soccer Coaches and for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. He currently teaches Physical Education at Johnston Middle School.
  • Dragon Dance Clinic

    DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 1 at 9pm Course Description Join the Johnston Dance Team for an exciting week of dancing, fun, and Dragon spirit! Dancers of all experience levels are invited to spend the week learning age-appropriate choreography, dance technique, and performance skills from the Johnston Dance Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to have fun and be part of the Dragon Dance Team family. Each dancer will receive a clinic t-shirt and have the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned with a special performance before the home varsity football game. Logistics Bring a water bottle with your name on it after school No snacks are provided during the clinic Wear clean, dry tennis shoes Friday, September 11 Performance Details Please have your child wear their clinic t-shirt they received. Have comfortable bottoms on (shorts, leggings of any color are fine) and wear tennis shoes. Please do not send dancers with additional clothing or water bottles. Child's hair- dancer's preference (pony tail, down, braided, etc.) Arrive at 5:30pm and participants should be brought in by parents at Door #2- Johnston High School Activities Entrance and meet in the cafeteria. Members of the dance team will be there to greet. Please do not come early, we will not be ready to check in dancers until 5:30pm. REQUIRED- Parents/families MUST pay prior to the football game. Please click here to pay ahead of time. Dancers are FREE. Participants are arranged by their school with Beaver Creek on the left (north) side when looking at the track from the bleachers and Wallace being on the right (south) side with other schools in between. Participants perform before the start of the varsity game (approximately 6:15pm). We recommend you be in the stands at 6:10pm to make sure you are there with plenty of time. Parents need to pick up dancers under the scoreboard at the south end zone when their performance is done. Dancers cannot leave the track until their parents have arrived.     DEADLINE TO ORDER T-SHIRTS IS ON 8/7 AT 12PM. REGISTRATION WILL BE OPEN, JUST NOT GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT. Course Description Learn all about offensive and defensive positions and special teams play. We’ll emphasize the fundamentals of various positions so players can learn about the game of football and build confidence. The camp will include sport-specific conditioning drills, position-specific fundamentals, and games and competitions. Logistics Camp will take place at the JMS Stadium. Enter on south side of stadium. Wear appropriate clothing (t-shirt, shorts, cleats), and bring a water bottle. No other football gear/equipment is needed.     Course Description Learn the fundamental wrestling techniques, drilling, and have live wrestling opportunities. The camp teaches the basics of wrestling and talks about the growth of girls wrestling in Iowa. Logistics Wear t-shirt/shorts and wear clean dry tennis shoes or wrestling shoes. Singlets/headgear are optional.     Course Description This preseason camp will offer technique, drilling, and live wrestling opportunities for all levels of wrestlers. Members of the high school wrestling team will also be present to help run the camp and teach our future Dragons! This camp is a great way to kick off the winter wrestling season and learn more about in-season winter opportunities! Logistics Wear t-shirt/shorts and wear clean dry tennis shoes or wrestling shoes. Singlets/headgear are optional. Also bring water bottle with their name on it Camp Director JHS Boys Head Wrestling Coach Aaron Tecklenburg- Coach Tecklenburg has been coaching at JHS since 2008. As a head coach, he has amassed 200+ dual wins. He was named 2025 Iowa HS 3A Coach of the Year, has coached over 100 State Qualifiers and over 50 state place winners, including 5 state champions. As a competitor, he was a 4X Iowa HS State Wrestling Qualifier/2X Placer/1X Finalist.
