Course Description Prepare students for college with an ACT or SAT College Prep Exam with Sylvan Learning Center. Trademarked ACT or SAT diagnostic exams are proctored and graded by Sylvan certified staff. Registration also includes a parent- consultation with Sylvan to help inform parents of next steps to further their students' growth. Course Description: The Babysitting Basics course from the American Red Cross gives participants a foundation on which to build a babysitting business. Designed for new babysitters, this course delivers information clearly, concisely and interactively – and it's the perfect way for young people to learn about all of the responsibilities that come with the job. The Babysitting Basics class covers a wide range of information that can help new babysitters gain the skills and confidence needed to care for infants and children. The course includes information on: How to care for infants and children What to do in an emergency and how to stay safe Choosing activities that are age appropriate Recognizing, understanding and handling certain behaviors Starting your babysitting business Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate that they can share with potential employers. This class will not fulfill the requirements for CPR, AED or First Aid certification. Course Description Join this dynamic course to learn a dynamite instrument! All {YEL!} guitar classes follow our basic components: Teach it!.. Players will learn the basics of music including reading music, rhythm, melody and meter. Practice It!.. Students will be provided musical exercises to reinforce basic concepts. Play It!.. Players will learn basic songs in various styles and there will be a mini-recital at the end of the session. Parent invited to attend. Let the music play! Course Description In FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore, students focus on the fundamentals of LEGO engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn and design basic code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education WeDo 2.0. Teams of up to 6 students, led by parent-volunteer coaches, will meet 1 day each week for up to 1 hour. During these team "practices", teams will work together to develop a solution and model related to the current season's theme. The Fall 2026 season theme is "BIOGLOW". The season culminates with an FLL Explore Expo where each team will present their unique solution, model and learning. The Winter/Spring 2026 expo is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 5:30pm. (Parents are invited to attend!) Registration Deadline: Sunday, September 27 (Fee increases to $100 on September 28) Coaches Meeting: Week of Oct 5-9 Teams will be contacted by parent-volunteer coaches following the coaches meeting Practices begin Tuesday, October 13 at 6:15pm. (Teams will practice for approximately 45min) Practice locations will be determined after team rosters are created and volunteer coaches are assigned Instructor: Parent-Volunteer Coaches! This program is dependent on parent-volunteers to operate. Rosters are limited to 6 students. That means we need to identify a Head Coach and ideally 2 Assistant Coaches for every six student team. A MINIMUM of 2 adults (Coach + Assistant Coach) are required to be on-site to safely supervise each practice. No LEGO or robotics experience is necessary. FLL and Community Education will provide all of the materials and support necessary to guide teams through each practice. With small rosters - all parents should consider how they can volunteer to support the team.

They will mix and knead their own magnetic slime, watch it come alive around a magnet, then design and build their own magnetic maze to test and race in this full day class. Course Description: Come experience the joy of performing in a string orchestra! Open to all playing abilities. Students have the opportunity to begin learning a new instrument or build on their existing skills in a fun and supportive environment. First-time players will experience more small-group or individual lessons and practice time, while more experienced players will begin working on ensemble repertoire. Attendance is not required at all Orchestra Club dates. Students that cannot make it to both days each week are still welcome to participate! Parents & family are invited to join us for an end of season concert on Monday, December 14. (Time: TBD) Orchestra Club Welcome Letter - Fall 2026 New in 2026, Johnston Orchestra Club rehersals will be organized into two sections: Beginner (Level 1) students will only attend the first hour, 4:00-5:00pm Experienced (Level 2) players will have the OPTION to attend the Level 1 rehersal as a mentor and then play in the Level 2 rehersal, 5:00-6:00pm Students should all register together in one roster, answer the registration questions regarding their intentions, and know that the instructors may suggest placement of students after the first few rehersals and as the season progresses. Instructors: Kara Mather has been sharing her love of music with students for 30 years, teaching violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano, conducting youth and community orchestras, performing violin/viola in local orchestras, and teaching high school and elementary orchestra programs. She enjoys helping students grow their skills and confidence, whether they are just starting out or preparing for advanced performances. She has a B.S. in Music Education and an M.Ed. in Teaching & Learning. Kristin Sullivan has been playing the violin for over 30 years and loves passing that joy on to her students. She has taught violin, viola, and elementary music for more than a decade and is excited to inspire young musicians in the orchestra club. Kristin has a B.A. in Music (violin) and a B.S. in Materials Engineering. She substitute teaches for JCSD, teaches piano lessons, and coaches a string quartet!

Kids will explore the science of foam and squishy materials, test how different shapes and add-ins affect squishy speed and bounce-back, and design and decorate their own custom squishies in this full day class.
