  • Babysitting Basics

    Course Description: The Babysitting Basics course from the American Red Cross gives participants a foundation on which to build a babysitting business. Designed for new babysitters, this course delivers information clearly, concisely and interactively – and it's the perfect way for young people to learn about all of the responsibilities that come with the job. The Babysitting Basics class covers a wide range of information that can help new babysitters gain the skills and confidence needed to care for infants and children. The course includes information on: How to care for infants and children What to do in an emergency and how to stay safe Choosing activities that are age appropriate Recognizing, understanding and handling certain behaviors Starting your babysitting business Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate that they can share with potential employers. This class will not fulfill the requirements for CPR, AED or First Aid certification.   • Beginning Guitar (Winter)

    Course Description Join this dynamic course to learn a dynamite instrument! All {YEL!} guitar classes follow our basic components: Teach it!.. Players will learn the basics of music including reading music, rhythm, melody and meter. Practice It!.. Students will be provided musical exercises to reinforce basic concepts. Play It!.. Players will learn basic songs in various styles and there will be a mini-recital at the end of the session. Parent invited to attend. Let the music play! Logistics Students must provide a six-string guitar. Call (800) 959-9261 for recommendations for purchasing a guitar. Remind students to bring guitar to each class. Students who bring electric guitars should also bring their own amplifier. Students can bring a water bottle with their name on it and a snack if desired Instructor Youth Enrichment League Youth Enrichment League {YEL!} was founded in 2004 by Chet and Lisa Gunhus. It was founded to bring the highest quality enrichment to schools throughout Minnesota.     Course Description Join Kids Create for a fun-filled day learning about art and rabbits! Guests will design and paint a unique tote bag, play with bunnies, watch a show with theater style snacks, and learn to draw funny rabbits dressed as people. Expect your child to create, learn, and play. Please send your child in painting clothes and with a peanut free sack lunch. Snacks/treats are served at all classes. Logistics Drop-off time is between 8:55-9:05am. No earlier. Pick up time is between 2:50-3:00pm. Enter through Door #7 at the District Office on the east side of the building (parking is available) Please pack a peanut free lunch and no-spill water bottle. Please send your child in painting clothes. Snacks/treats are served at all classes. Bring a coat/hat/gloves in case weather allows for playground or nature walks.   • Orchestra Club: Ensemble and Small Group Lessons on Violin, Viola, Cello, & Bass

    Course Description: Come experience the joy of performing in a string orchestra! Open to all playing abilities. Students have the opportunity to begin learning a new instrument or build on their existing skills in a fun and supportive environment. First-time players will experience more small-group or individual lessons and practice time, while more experienced players will begin working on ensemble repertoire. Attendance is not required at all Orchestra Club dates! Students that cannot make it to both days each week are still welcome to participate! Parents & family are invited to join us for an end of season concert on Wednesday, April 29. (Time: TBD) Orchestra Club Open House & Tune Up Wednesday, January 7, 4:00-4:30pm JMS Band Room, Enter through Door #21 This is an opportunity for anyone interested in Orchestra Club to meet Kara and Kristin to talk about the program. Returning and prospective Orchestra Club members are invited to bring their instruments tuned-up before the first day! Instructors: Kara Mather has been sharing her love of music with students for 30 years, teaching violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano, conducting youth and community orchestras, performing violin/viola in local orchestras, and teaching high school and elementary orchestra programs. She enjoys helping students grow their skills and confidence, whether they are just starting out or preparing for advanced performances. She has a B.S. in Music Education and an M.Ed. in Teaching & Learning. Kristin Sullivan has been playing the violin for over 30 years and loves passing that joy on to her students. She has taught violin, viola, and elementary music for more than a decade and is excited to inspire young musicians in the orchestra club. Kristin has a B.A. in Music (violin) and a B.S. in Materials Engineering. She substitute teaches for JCSD, teaches piano lessons, and coaches a string quartet!
