    Description: Camp Kindergarten is a one-day program for JCSD kindergarteners who have the day off from school following their first two days of class! Students will participate in a variety of fun and enriching camp-themed activities throughout the day. Logistics: Camp Kindergarten will take place at the District Office, 6510 NW 62nd Ave, Johnston, IA 50131 Camp Kindergarten program hours: 9:00am-3:30pm Wrap-Around hours: Drop-Off: 7:30-9:00am Pick-Up: 3:30-5:30pm Students will be served a sack lunch (if needed) as well as morning and afternoon snacks. Students may bring their own sack lunch (it will not be able to be refrigerated). Students who need a sack lunch provided by the school district will be charged to their school lunch account.     Course Description Launch and watch a rocket speed 300 feet into the air! Then take it home! Students will make and take home multiple rockets of varying difficulty throughout this session. Rockets and airplanes are used to investigate basic aeronautical concepts including: propulsion, thrust, lift, drag and more.     Course Description Measure, mix, shake, and bake! Students will get comfortable in the kitchen preparing and flavoring snacks, mixing and baking treats, and shaking up homemade ice cream! Young chefs will have the opportunity to experiment with flavors and test fizzing concoctions. This camp is a tasty blend of science, creativity, and fun!     Course Description {YEL!} Mad Scientists Training Academy In this class, you won’t just learn science…you’ll DO science. Make and take home a lava lamp, hover disc, explosive volcano, and...of course...SLIME! Use all of these experiments to explore and discover the scientific method. Don your white coat and goggles…it’s time to begin your own journey to becoming a mad scientist (cue maniacal laugh)! NOTE: All experiments are physical experiments, not chemical.     DEADLINE IS JUNE 8 AT 12PM TO BE GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT Course Description This is a two-day long summer program for children entering Kindergarten and First Grade. Incoming students learn about home, playground, personal safety and kindness. Participants also learn traffic safety and fire safety in a fun, engaging environment. Kids will practice what they learned by taking a bus to the fire station on the second day. T-shirts are given out the first day and certificates are handed out at the completion of the program.     Course Description Start the school year off right! Participants will be introduced to strategies related to: organization and time management, note taking strategies, test taking strategies, reading and study strategies, and learning style and study habits. Register for individual workshops or the 5-workshop combo! Organization & Time Management: (Monday, Aug 3) Develop and refine time management and organizational habits to succeed in school, life, and beyond. Use an academic planner to track school assignments and grades. Manage time and responsibilities inside and outside of the classroom. Organize school work and study area Note Taking Strategies: (Tuesday, Aug 4) An introduction to taking notes in order to study more effectively and improve test scores. Learn note-taking tools to record and manage information presented in classroom texts and lectures. Test Taking Strategies: (Wednesday, Aug 5) Introduction to study strategies to take tests and quizzes with confidence. Manage test anxiety and use a study process. Apply study strategies for various subjects. Tackle different types of tests and item types. Reading & Study Strategies: (Thursday, Aug 6) Develop active reading strategies to read better in every class. Use text features to improve comprehension. Read strategically by using text features, visual aids, and context clues. Locate the main idea and summarize information. Skim and scan for key details.
