    Course Description Prepare students for college with an ACT or SAT College Prep Exam with Sylvan Learning Center. Trademarked ACT or SAT diagnostic exams are proctored and graded by Sylvan certified staff. Registration also includes a parent- consultation with Sylvan to help inform parents of next steps to further their students' growth.     Course Description: The Babysitting Basics course from the American Red Cross gives participants a foundation on which to build a babysitting business. Designed for new babysitters, this course delivers information clearly, concisely and interactively – and it's the perfect way for young people to learn about all of the responsibilities that come with the job. The Babysitting Basics class covers a wide range of information that can help new babysitters gain the skills and confidence needed to care for infants and children. The course includes information on: How to care for infants and children What to do in an emergency and how to stay safe Choosing activities that are age appropriate Recognizing, understanding and handling certain behaviors Starting your babysitting business Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate that they can share with potential employers. This class will not fulfill the requirements for CPR, AED or First Aid certification.     Course Description Join this dynamic course to learn a dynamite instrument! All {YEL!} guitar classes follow our basic components: Teach it!.. Players will learn the basics of music including reading music, rhythm, melody and meter. Practice It!.. Students will be provided musical exercises to reinforce basic concepts. Play It!.. Players will learn basic songs in various styles and there will be a mini-recital at the end of the session. Parent invited to attend. Let the music play! Logistics Students must provide a six-string guitar. Call (800) 959-9261 for recommendations for purchasing a guitar. Remind students to bring guitar to each class. Students who bring electric guitars should also bring their own amplifier.     Course Description The Creighton Women's Soccer Coaches will lead participants through training to get players ready for the season. This camp’s goal is to prepare high school girls for the demands of the upcoming season, both physically and mentally. Camp sessions will focus on physical, technical, tactical, and psychological training. *This camp is open to any and all entrants limited only by number, age, grade level, and/or gender.   • Dragon Performance Training

    Course Description Dragon Performance Training helps youth athletes improve their physical abilities, so that they can have the best sports performance possible. By focusing on speed and strength as well as injury prevention, we can create positive results in each athlete. Each athlete will be tested with different metrics at the start and end of the month using Dashr technology. This technology will provide athletes with their speed in MPH, their vertical jump, and their pro agility times. The instructor tailors performance training for the student athletes. Logistics Bring water bottle Wear clean, dry shoes and athletic clothing best for movement Camp Director Eric Shafer- Dr. Shafer has helped in the Johnston weight room in some capacity for 16 years. He currently serves as the Johnston High School Girls Soccer Head Coach. In Spring 2023, the Dragons won the Iowa High School Girls Class 3A State Championship and finished 16-4. Coach Shafer was named 2023 Large Public Iowa Coach of the Year with United Soccer Coaches and for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. He currently teaches Physical Education and Introduction to Strength Training at Johnston Middle School.

    Course Description Join this fast-paced, inclusive (everyone participates) Olympic Sport. YEL’s Teach It, Practice It, Play It® approach teaches fencers new skills each class, practices those skills in kid-friendly fencing games, and then encourages students to use those skills in fencing bouts (matches).     Course Description Whether a quicker first step is needed, a faster change of direction, or improved footwork - working on speed and agility with Patrick Jackson will help each child get there! This clinic will focus on explosion, bursts, turn over and top end speed. Logistics Enter through Door #9 Bring water bottle/jug with name on it Instructor Patrick Jackson was a football and track star at Coe College. As a defensive back for the Kohawk football team, Patrick was a two-time, First Team All-Iowa Conference honoree. He was named to the All-West Region first team by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette in 2002. With 213 career tackles, he is tied for ninth in school history with seven interceptions in 2001. He tied a school record with three career blocked kicks. In track, Patrick was a two-time All-American as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team, which finished fifth at the NCAA Championships in 2002 and 2003. After graduating, Patrick played semi-pro football for 12 years with the Sioux City Bandits, Cedar Valley Vikings, Iowa Lightning, and North Iowa Bucks, which inducted him into its hall of fame in 2016.

Instructor Mr. Phil Dickey, has more than 30 years of martial arts teaching experience. He is an elementary teacher, a fourth Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, Fifth Degree Black Belt Karate, and a 3-time Martial Arts Hall of Fame Inductee.
