  • Intro to Genealogy

    CORRECTION: The PRICE for this class in the Fall 2024 edition of 'The Connection' is incorrect. The correct price for this class is $65 for an individual and $99 for a pair living in the same household. Course Description: Participants will learn to research their ancestors, trace a family tree branch back two to three generations, and create an heirloom for future generations. The process involves using online tools, verifying facts, and collaborating with family members. Logistics: Participants will need to bring their own device (tablet or laptop). Wi-Fi will be provided. No subscriptions needed. Free websites will be used for teaching purposes. Bring a family member for a discounted rate. Genealogy is meant to be shared! Instructor: Kristin Holm has been researching her family tree for over thirty years and is in the process of becoming certified by the Board for Certification of Genealogists. She earned a Certificate in Genealogy Research from Boston University in 2020 and has completed courses in Professional Genealogy and Mastering Genealogical Proof. She has completed research projects for others through Five Gifts Genealogy, named for her five children.
  • Voice Overs... Now Is Your Time (ONLINE CLASS)

    Course Description: In what could be the most enlightening webinar you’ve ever taken, our instructor and professional voice coach will show you how you can actually begin using your speaking voice for commercials, films, videos, and more. Most people go about it the wrong way. In this introductory class, you will learn about a unique, outside the box way to break into this creative, fulfilling, and potentially lucrative industry. Voice-overs can be managed on your own terms, on your own turf, in your own time, and with minimal overhead! Whether you choose to pursue voice-overs part-time or full-time, this could be the game changer you’ve been looking for. In addition to online instruction, you will be given the opportunity to book a 1-on-1 script read and voice evaluation via telephone with your instructor for the following day. Logistics: This class will be presented via Zoom. You will receive a link 24 hours prior to the class. Instructor: Lisa Foster, with 18 years of experience in voice-overs and broadcasting, has one of the most versatile voices in the industry. She has written and voiced live and recorded commercials for dozens of businesses and corporations including Crest Toothpaste, Olay, Café Appassionato, LA Weight Loss, Advanced Laser Clinics and Sleep Train. Foster has done numerous local and national spots, from website narratives and computer games to commercials and even comedy bits! She is a well-known on-air radio personality in the Seattle broadcast market, and with her state-of-the-art home recording studio, she is now being heard all over the world!
