Introduction to Competitive Swimming

Aquatics / Aquatics Courses -
Spring 2025

Course Description

  • The Introduction to Competitive Swimming course bridges the gap between swimming lessons and competitive swim team. This class will teach the finer points of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, flip turns, and racing starts. Each class will focus on one or two skills per class to help students learn the skills needed for competitive swimming. Swimmers should come into the class being able to swim a minimum of 25 yards freestyle, 25 yards backstroke, and be comfortable in deep water. If parents are not sure their child is ready, please contact the Aquatics Coordinator to set up an evaluation prior to attending class. At the end of the class, the instructors will evaluate each student to determine if they are ready for swim team. Students may require multiple rounds of the class in order to be ready for swim team.

Logistics

  • Class is at Summit Middle School Pool. Enter through door #20 and the pool area is to the right. Bring goggles that do not cover the nose, a water bottle, competitive style swim suit, towel, and an optional swim cap. Swimmers will meet under the scoreboard while parents should observe the class from the stands.
