Course Description:

For beekeepers who have at least one winter (successful or unsuccessful) under their belt. Topics include splits, spring feeding, swarm and advanced colony management, and integrated pest management for varroa mites; includes at least one field day (TBD).

All students in Beekeeping 101 and 201 will receive a free copy of "A Beekeeper's Year (prairie edition)" at the last class.

Notes for this class are available to purchase, $13! Search "Beekeeping 201 Notes" to purchase the class notes the same way you would register for a class. 

Logistics:

  • Beekeeping 101 notes are optional. Purchase by searching 'Beekeeping 101 Notes' on Eleyo
  • Class will take place at the Summit Middle School Library

Instructor: Julia McGuire

  • Julia McGuire helps beginning beekeepers master basic skills and advanced beekeepers learn niche topics. She's kept bees in central Iowa since 2011 with a high rate of winter survival, has experience in filing ELAP due to tornado loss, and has recently taught beekeeping through the Farmer-to-Farmer program to rural populations in Jamaica and Honduras.
