  • Intro to KinderFlute

    Course Description: KinderFlute is all about FUN! This action-packed class offers an introduction to flute playing through games, activities, and focused group and one-on-one instruction. KinderFlute is a unique curriculum based in the science of “neurogenesis”—or the birth of neurons—which happens best when kids learn in an active and supportive environment. It’s like miracle grow for little brains! In these classes, students will have a chance to try the flute while learning beginning music theory concepts and listening and moving to great flute music! If you have considered music lessons (perhaps piano, violin, guitar, etc.) for your child, KinderFlute may be just what you are looking for! Intro classes are for students and a parent/guardian or other responsible adult (16yrs+). It is essential that a grown-up accompany students in these classes to observe and support at-home music making, and maybe even participate in the games and activities right along with us. Students will receive their very own Nuvo Toot to keep – this is a plastic beginner flute that students will use in class and take home to encourage beautiful flute-playing and music exploration beyond the class. A few additional items--including a PneumoPro Wind Director and real flute headjoint--will be loaned to each student at the first class, and returned at the last class (additional fee may apply for lost or damaged loaner items).     Course Description Magicamp is for anyone who likes to have fun! New and returning magicians will enjoy learning and refining their skills. Participants learn how to entertain and amaze friends, family, and classmates with magic that can be done anywhere, at any time. Join professional magician Lee Cole for two days of magic!     Course Description PE Olympics is a summer program that places individuals on a variety of teams while playing a wide array of games/activities. This will be for individuals entering 4th-7th grade. We will emphasize good sportsmanship, fun competition, and teamwork. Games/activities will help students with core strength, flexibility, agility, speed, power and endurance while improving athletic ability.     Course Description Learn pickleball quick! The shots focused on will be dinks, volleys, serves, and returns. By the end of the week participants will be able to play a match, understand scoring, and where to stand on the court. Beginner- The players learn the basic strokes. The strokes include serve, return, forehand, backhand, dink, and volley. The players learn where to stand on the court and how to score. Intermediate - The players learn strategy, grips, and spins. The players practice implementing the new strokes and placement in live play.     Course Description Participants will receive personalized instruction towards continued growth in band. Dig into the finer details of performing on individual instruments. Students will work out of a lesson book to build up fundamental playing, or on honor band and all-state audition materials. Each lesson is 30 minutes in length. 1 student per timeslot. No make up lessons. Exception: If the instructor cancels a lesson for some reason - that lesson will be rescheduled. Lessons that participants fail to show up for will not be rescheduled. If students have a schedule conflict due to attending a Dragon band camp, an alternate lesson time can be arranged with the instructor for that week only. Logistics Students must provide their own instrument. There will be lessons on July 3. No lessons on July 17. Instructor: Elinor Barnwell Elinor Barnwell is the 5th grade band teacher at Wallace and Lawson Elementaries. She has 3 years of previous experience with elementary, middle, and high school bands. Elinor's primary instrument is flute, and she loves helping students grow in their excitement and knowledge of music!

    Course Description: Students can choose PIANO or VOICE lessons! Voice Lessons (students entering 8th-12th grade only): Participants will receive personalized instruction that helps them strengthen technique, musicality, and build repertoire. Students will work one-on-one with the instructor to choose songs, as well create goals specific to their needs. Piano Lessons (students entering 1st-12th grade): Students will develop musical confidence through the theory and ear training provided by piano instruction. Reading music and developing performance proficiency will be the primary focus of lessons, while more advanced students will dig into the finer details of theory and performing. Students will work out of a lesson book to build up fundamental playing. Each lesson is 30 minutes in length. 1 student per timeslot. No make up lessons.     Course Description Sweet summer projects! A comfy pair of shorts, a water bottle bag, criss-cross headband and more. Students will make, showcase, and take home all projects. Hand and machine sewing techniques are taught with SAFETY FIRST always in mind. The final day is a showcase where friends and family are invited to see the projects in action.   • Safety Town

    Course Description This is a two-day long summer program for children entering Kindergarten and First Grade. Incoming students learn about home, playground, personal safety and kindness. Participants also learn traffic safety and fire safety in a fun, engaging environment. Kids will practice what they learned by taking a bus to the fire station on the second day. T-shirts are given out the first day and certificates are handed out at the completion of the program.
